Teeth Cleanings In La Jolla

Keep Your Smile Healthy and Bright

When it comes to maintaining a healthy smile, great at-home oral hygiene is extremely important. But even if you brush twice a day, floss once daily, and have a healthy diet and lifestyle, routine teeth cleanings and oral exams from Dr. Bethany Englund are essential for protecting your oral health. Routine cleanings at Englund Dental leave your smile bright and shiny, reduce your risk of gum disease and gingivitis, and give you peace of mind.

The Importance of Regular Teeth Cleanings

Even with great at-home oral hygiene, it’s still possible for bacteria-filled plaque and tartar to build up on your teeth, especially in crevices between your teeth and behind your teeth. With a professional dental cleaning at Englund Dental, one of our hygienists can remove this buildup.

In turn, this eliminates bacteria from your mouth and reduces your risk of gum disease and tooth decay. Along with fighting back against common oral health issues, six-month teeth cleanings also help remove surface stains from your teeth and eliminate bacteria that can cause bad breath.

What To Expect from Your Dental Cleaning

What should you expect from your first visit to Englund Dental? Here’s a quick overview of what to expect during your first visit and dental cleaning.

Oral exam & X-rays

Oral exams are always a part of dental teeth cleanings. Before you can have your teeth cleaned, Dr. Englund and our dental team must make sure that your mouth is healthy enough for teeth cleaning. You may also need to get dental X-rays if you’re a new patient, or if it’s been a year or more since your last set of X-rays. X-rays let our team see below the surface and look for hidden signs of oral health issues, identify existing dental work, and more.

Removing plaque & tartar

Next, one of our dental hygienists will use special tools to gently scrape away plaque and tartar from between your teeth. We use a gentle approach to keep you comfortable, and we also offer warm blankets, eye masks, and lots of other amenities for a spa-like experience at Englund Dental.

Polishing your teeth

Once your hygienist has removed most of the plaque and tartar from your teeth, they’ll polish your smile with a rubber cup polisher and gritty toothpaste. This removes any remaining buildup from your teeth, leaving them slick, shiny, and bright.

Flossing & finishing up

As the last step, your hygienist will floss to remove any lingering debris or material from between your teeth. This leaves your smile completely clean. Depending on your needs, we may also recommend additional treatments. For example, if you have a history of cavities, a fluoride treatment can be applied to your teeth to strengthen them and reduce your risk of future tooth decay.

Teeth Cleaning FAQs

How Much Do Teeth Cleanings Cost?

If you have dental insurance, twice-yearly teeth cleanings and oral exams are typically 100% covered by your plan. This means you can get preventive care without any out-of-pocket costs.

Even if you don’t have dental insurance, investing in twice-yearly oral exams and teeth cleanings is worth it. Taking great care of your smile reduces your risk of gum disease, cavities, and other oral health issues. In turn, this means you’re less likely to need complex, costly treatments like fillings, crowns, and tooth extractions.

How Often Do I Need A Teeth Cleaning?

We recommend that our patients come and visit Englund Dental for a checkup and teeth cleaning every six months. However, some patients may need more frequent oral exams and cleanings. If this is the case for you, Dr. Englund will let you know during your visit.
